Potted plants
By
Stella M. Turk MBE

Contemplation

Caged animals plead

And we take heed.

Potted plants can’t ‘talk’

Nor can they walk

So they can’t appeal

For drink or ‘meal’

And could be lost

Without compost.

Are they too wet.

And in a sweat?

Are they too dry

While we stand by

And wonder why

Our plants then die.

Many potted plants die from

the sort of mismanagement,

of which I have been guilty.

Now we have been warned

that anticipated extreme

weather conditions will

inevitably include some long

dry spells when water restrictions

may cause problems for potted

plants and those who pot them.
